Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) care for patients of all ages, with a wide variety of health conditions. Chiropractors primarily focus on spinal health and the treatment of back pain, neck pain and headaches. They also care for patients with injuries and disorders of the entire musculoskeletal system, involving the muscles, ligaments and joints. These conditions often impact the nervous system, which can cause referred pain and dysfunction away from the region of injury. Chiropractors also guide patients on diet, nutrition, exercise, healthy habits, and occupational and lifestyle modification.
As defined by the American Chiropractic Association:
Chiropractic adjustment or manipulation is a manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined skills developed during the doctor of chiropractic’s intensive years of chiropractic education. The chiropractic physician typically uses his or her hands–or an instrument–to manipulate the joints of the body, particularly the spine, in order to restore or enhance joint function. This often helps resolve joint inflammation and reduces the patient’s pain. Chiropractic manipulation is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. The chiropractor adapts the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment.

On your first visit, approximately 60 minutes, we’ll begin with an evaluation of your health history, current condition, symptoms and concerns. You’ll receive a thorough health examination involving blood pressure, pulse, respiration, neurological tests and orthopedic tests followed by palpitation of the spine to assess how chiropractic and you together, can best improve your health. If more tests are required (such as x-rays) to properly evaluate your condition, this will be explained to you.
Your first visit may consist of treatment or an adjustment. An adjustment is a key component of chiropractic care, as proper structural alignment is crucial to proper function and health. These adjustments will usually occur in the spine, but they can be performed on any joint in the body. Your treatment plan might include activity advice, hot or cold packs, electric stimulation, exercises, and other types of therapies as well as nutritional guidelines, stress management, and lifestyle recommendations.
Your physical examination and treatment may require you to bend forward, lie down on your side/back or face down, raise a leg, or squat. Please wear flexible, athletic clothing to each visit. On your first visit, shorts are required to complete neurological exams or a gown will be supplied,
